Behind the scenes: Mentoring Sessions

Over the past year I’ve had a couple of opportunities to mentor photographers at my studio in Auburn, AL who are looking to get more experience with studio lighting. I thought I’d create a blog post to share what that looks like!

Most recently Stacy from Stacy Jay Photography in Wetumpka reached out to me for advice on studio senior and pageant lighting. She brought her own senior portrait client, Morgan, along with her. Morgan recently won Miss Northwest Jefferson Princess in the Bama Belle Pageant! While Stacy and Morgan were in the studio we set up scenes for three to four outfits and Stacy took photos to get hands on experience with the lighting, equipment and settings. I couldn’t help but snap a few photos myself of Morgan in this adorable yellow and polka dot set up!

Last year two of my photographer besties, Melissa and Allison, reached out to me for advice about studio pageant and senior lighting as well. I attend conferences and workshops with Melissa and Allison and we have became great friends that offer advice to one another on all things creative and business! Melissa is from St. Augustine, FL and Allison is from Charlotte, NC. One of my past clients, Ashlyn Powers who had recently won Miss Mobile Bay was our model for the day! Tori from Artistry Beauty Bar did Ashlyn’s hair and make up for this shoot and I don’t think it could have turned out better!

Mentoring has been a fun experience for me so far! I would love to continue guiding and supporting fellow photographers. While I haven’t formally launched any mentoring services yet, I am excited about the possibility of offering more structured guidance in the future. For now, I’m taking it one step at a time, enjoying these informal sessions and seeing where this path leads. Stay tuned for more updates and behind-the-scenes stories from future mentoring sessions!
