Headshots for Tomorrow’s Doctors - Auburn VCOM Students
As a headshot photographer, it’s always rewarding to create portraits that help clients take their next big steps in their careers. In the spotlight today, I’m reflecting on how I’ve had the special pleasure of working with many Auburn VCOM students over the past few years as they prepare for one of the most critical phases in their medical careers—applying for residencies!
Auburn’s Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine (VCOM) is a campus dedicated to excellence in healthcare education. Built in 2014 within Auburn University’s research park, VCOM-Auburn offers state-of-the-art facilities, from a simulation center and anatomy lab to an OMM (Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine) lab, all designed specifically for its Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) program. The students here receive a hands-on education that combines traditional medical instruction with osteopathic principles, which emphasize a holistic approach to patient care.
VCOM students collaborate on research projects, working alongside Auburn University faculty in the first-floor research lab and across campus in laboratories. The partnerships extend to Auburn’s Harrison School of Pharmacy, the Samuel Ginn College of Engineering, and more, which speaks volumes about VCOM’s emphasis on interdisciplinary education and medical innovation. Each year, 150 students join this program, committed to making a difference in healthcare.
When capturing headshots for VCOM students, I aim to highlight their professionalism, dedication, and personality that they’ll bring to their residencies and future medical careers. Medical headshots are more than just photos—they’re an essential part of the residency application, helping students make a strong first impression with potential residency directors. For students who’ve spent years studying and training in these advanced facilities, it’s an honor to create portraits that truly represent their journey, and that meet a quality standard which will allow them to continue using these headshots even into the beginnings of their licensed medical careers.
In working with more VCOM students this year, I look forward to showcasing the individuality and determination of each future physician, helping them put their best face forward as they apply to residencies in various specialties. Here’s to Auburn VCOM and to each of these incredible students, ready to step into the field of medicine with confidence!
