New Service Spotlight: Newborn Photography
When I first started exploring photography, I photographed a little bit of everything - weddings, families, high school seniors, children and baby milestones, maternity, engagements, and newborn sessions. When I started my business, I decided I wanted to hyper-focus on senior portraits and families with teens since I loved and related so well with that age group. As time went on, I added headshots and personal branding to my photography services - it’s like senior portraits for grown ups! And having a studio space available to handle all those needs too made it an easy decision to add to the services line up. I swore for about 8 years that I’d never ever open my schedule up for newborn and baby photos again….but here’s a reminder to never say never!
As I’ve watched my high school seniors grow up and graduate from college, get engaged, get married, and start raising their own families, I’ve started to develop FOMO (fear of missing out). There are so many beautiful life milestones happening for the people I’ve grown to adore and I started to think….why am I telling people I’m not the right photographer to continue capturing those special moments for them?! Don’t get me wrong, I still think weddings are an extrovert’s game and will keep that door firmly closed, but I feel totally confident and at peace in 2025 with opening the door to new opportunities in the world of newborn and baby photography for my clients and community!
In order to get to that place of confidence, I knew I’d need some special training. Newborns are so precious and vulnerable and my priority is to ensure the safety and comfort of my clients. Thankfully, here in Auburn there is a literal world class newborn photographer and instructor, Amy Scott of Dewdrops Photography right here in Auburn! Amy was extremely gracious to accept my request for a 1-on-1 workshop/training. All of the images in this post were created in her studio with her props/backgrounds/styling and under her direction and supervision. Turns out, with some great training, working with newborns isn’t nearly as intimidating or overwhelming as I initially made it out to be. Super thankful to Amy for demystifying the process and seriously being the most supportive teacher. I am thankful to her example of choosing community over competition and building up other photographers along the way.
I’m very excited to bring Newborn Photography services to my clients in Auburn, Opelika, and beyond - stay tuned for more of this journey as we create new content with all the new props and fabrics I’ve started gathering for clients in my own studio space!
